Looking ahead to 2022…

2021 was QUITE an eventful year! When I look back on everything that has happened over the last 12 months, I can hardly believe it myself! From our soft launch on Etsy, to Planet B becoming my full-time gig, adding a new puppy to our furry family, and everything in between, YOU have all made every moment of hard work or self-doubt worth it, and for that I am incredibly grateful.

My mission in starting Planet B was and continues to be to expand the community of those who take care of the earth. It has been an absolute pleasure to meet and talk with so many like-minded folks, and I am so excited to bring you all along as we continue along our sustainability journey together.

As we start the new year, I want to share some of my sustainable goals, and I hope you will join me in putting forward our best efforts to achieve them!

  1. Stop Wishcycling

  2. Shop local as much as possible (Amazon who?)

  3. Stick to seasonal fruits and veggies

  4. Hand wash and line dry laundry more often

  5. Pick up three pieces of trash every time you go out

  6. Make your own milk alternatives

  7. Learn new ways to preserve food to avoid waste (our freezer has really filled up FAST!)

  8. Check secondhand first before buying new items

  9. Reduce consumption of take-out / delivery food

  10. Stop mindlessly streaming TV / music and opt for locally stored media instead

  11. Contact companies who you want to improve their sustainability practices

  12. Write to your local representatives to ask for better sustainability legislation

And if those goals seem like too much of a reach, here are some simple, but massively impactful ones to get you started!

  1. Swap one disposable for a re-usable alternative (for example: straws, water bottles, utensils, period products, etc.)

  2. FINALLY remember to bring your re-useable bags to the store (for those of you in NJ – remember that there will be no more plastic bags available come May!)

  3. Replace meat with a different protein source in one meal per week

  4. Say no thank you to straws at bars, restaurants, and coffee shops

  5. Buy ingredients you will use up before they go bad

  6. Start composting

  7. Avoid food, cosmetics, and cleaning products containing Palm Oil

  8. Say no to fast fashion

  9. Bring your own mug to coffee shops

  10. Buy packaged items in glass, bamboo, or paper instead of plastic whenever possible

  11. Mend holes in clothes instead of throwing away (Hint: You don’t have to do this yourself! Many local tailors have repair services.)

  12. Choose organic whenever possible

  13. Grow your own food (even if it’s just herbs – anything counts!)

  14. Watch a documentary on sustainability

  15. Delete unneeded emails and empty your trash folder

  16. Vote!

  17. Shorten your shower time by 1 minute
